A bridge (repair) too far?

I read in Brigg Matters September 2011 that it will need more that 300K to complete this work. I have spoken to contacts in engineering and construction and our consensus is that this figure is highly inflated for what, basically, is a very simple project.

Do any of the Friends of the County Bridge have any breakdown of the costs involved?

Initially a refurbishment of the railings and anti-slip treatment of the south walkway would improve the image of the Bridge. I have already suggested to our local councillors that the oxidation of the railings is a H & S issue as one of my grandchildren has cut her finger on the handrail while watching the swans.

I noticed after my complaint that tape had beenĀ  wrapped round the handrails some areas which will only help very short term as the bond between the many layers of paintwork and the handrail deteriorates.
