Campaign to free Luke Armstrong

Section: Campaigns

2009 dec 7

A campaign has been set up by the parents of jailed Brigg man Luke Armstrong - reports the Royal Gazette.

Mr Armstrong was sentenced by a Bermudan court to 15 months in prison for causing the death of Winston 'Yogi' Burrows by dangerous driving. His lawyer, Saul Froomkin QC has announced that an appeal has been filed at the Court of Appeal against the sentence.

A website - www.justiceforlukearmstrong.co.uk - has been set up to campaign for the freeing of Mr Armstrong. To date it has 1,600 supporters. Brigg MP Mr Ian Cawsey has also taken up the case.

The family are contesting the verdict on the grounds that "he was found guilty on circumstantial evidence only."
