Flying: aircraft, planes, airports and airfields
Lincolnshire has always had a strong connection with flying. The wide open spaces made it ideal for the placement of the many heavy bomber bases during World War II. This earned the nickname "Bomber County". Although Brigg has never had its own airfield, there is an international airport operating at nearby Kirmington. In the past there were RAF bases at Elsham Wold, Hibaldstow and Caistor. Brigg is directly under the flightpath of commercial aircraft for Humberside International Airport and also of military aircraft flying down the east coast from Scotland to East Anglia.
