Dying Gladiator receives life saving surgery
Section: Pubs
2009 oct 2 The Dying Gladiator pub on Bigby Street, Brigg has been closed for several years now, yet there are indications that the famous statue may be restored in future. Brigg Town Councillor Penny Smith is reported in the Scunthorpe Telegraph as saying that she was walking with the sister of Rachel Faulding - the senior lecturer at the University of Lincoln's restoration studies department - when the idea of using the resources of the University of Lincoln to restore the statue was proposed. The story on the Scunthorpe Telegraph is unclear about who would bear the cost of the restoration of the statue:the article states that if students were to restore the statue they would "renovate the statue for a lower price". Would it be the owner of the building or would a public body such as the Town Council pay the cost of restoration? A future home of the statue could be in the courtyard of the Angel Inn. Brigg Town Council are in the process of lobbying to remove the listed status of the interior of the Dying Gladiator so that the owners of the building can renovate it. Links:
