HMRC tax refund (again)
2011 jan 17 The tax refund scam is up and running again this year. The email, though, has come a bit earlier than usual - (Ed: perhaps the unseasonal warm, springlike spell that we are experiencing?? :-) You will receive an email making out that it comes from an hmrc.gov.uk email address with a subject line similar to "Submit Your Payment Refund". The email is addressed to "Dear applicant" and claims that you are owed an amount of tax in the low hundreds. The message goes on to claim that the call centre is too busy to handle the claim so that you have to apply online. This old scam is fast becoming a springtime tradition ... NB. The email comes a long with a nasty attachment which you should certainly not open. |
