Angel Suite subsidy increases by 50%
Section: Waste: stop it now!
2011 dec 6 Only days after crippling strikes by public sector workers who are protesting against cuts in their pensions due to spending cuts, it was a surprise and shock to read in the Brigg Town Council annual accounts - as printed in the Brigg Matters newsletter - that the subsidy for the Angel Suite venue has increased by 50% in one year. In 2010 the Angel Suite was subsidised by £10,000. In 2011 this rose to the mind-boggling figure of £15,000. An increase of 50%. At the same time, the fees for administering the venue in 2011 were stated as a total of £19,460.68. No separate figure for 2011 was available. Does anyone out there remember when it was run on a voluntary basis? When this subsidy is accounted in, it appears that the venue is making a modest profit, whereas in fact it is making a large loss. Let's hope that the subsidy / loss for next year 2012 doesn't rise by a further 50% ... |
