We go past the pedestrian lights each day without a second glance, but what if you are blind or partially sighted?
The traffic lights on Barnards Avenue in Brigg have special devices on the underside to help people with sight problems. There is a knob under the box on the post (picture right with arrow) which rotates when the little man is green.
It is surprising that there is no audible tone: when the lights turn green to cross one section of road at Cary Lane they go green for all the other directions, so there should be no reason why there isn't a tone.
The lights for Courts Road / official carpark are different: it takes two full cycles of the traffic lights for pedestrians to be able to cross - at least for those obeying the green man. Not many do, of course - after all, no one expects car drivers to wait two full cycles of the lights to cross the junction ...
