The Brigg Fair has been taking place for just over 800 years since 1204. A charter was granted by the King to Ernisius de Neville:

... he and his heirs may have for ever one market every week on Thursday at Glanford Bridge and one fair there every year for four days: viz. on St James' day and the three following days ...
