Travellers arrive in BriggFriday, 29 July 2005
Around ten caravans from the traveller community arrived in Brigg yesterday afternoon on the Brigg rail station car park on Station Road. Pictured above is Mrs Lee (seated) together with some of the pony traps.
Once again, North Lincolnshire Council is attempting to stop Brigg Horse Fair taking place. This is in spite of the fact that last year Brigg Town Council undertook an official survey of Brigg residents about their views on the Horse Fair which indicated that nearly three-quarters (71%) wanted a Fair with horses to be staged. The most favoured site for the horse fair was the railway carpark / station road with 62% of votes. North Lincolnshire Council has hired two security guards who have instructions to keep the gates at the junction with Albert street locked. Despite the best efforts of the guards, it has proved to be impossible to prevent access along Station Road, so it looks like the Brigg horse fair will be taking place once again. |
