Brigg Fair, Dark Nights1 August 2006 'Brigg Fair, Dark Nights' a sound installation by Elle Osborne. ![]() Elle Osborne Presented in The Angel Suite, Market Place,Brigg, on Horse Fair Day, Saturday August 5th 2006. "Brigg Fair, Dark Nights" is an exhibition to celebrate, in sound, the life and spirit of the horse fair - and its people - which for one day each summer for over 800 years, has brought to life the North Lincolnshire market town in the traditional custom of buying and selling horses. Using oral history recordings, sounds found at the fair, traditional song and fiddle tunes, 'Brigg Fair, Dark Nightsą is an exhibition of recordings exploring the historical and contemporary significance of the oldest existing horse fair, Brigg Fair. The sound installation will run from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 5th August, and visitors will be welcome to leave their own memories of fairs past in a special recording on the day. The name 'Brigg Fair, Dark Nightsą comes from an old local saying, told to Elle by Brigg elder Dorrie Stothard in an interview for the Brigg Fair Oral History archive. Supported by North Lincs Council and Art Council England. |
