Reggae at the Adelphi
Reggae night at the Adelphi Club, Hull ... or at least, so I thought. I had expected live band(s) but there was just two dodgy looking types playing records (yes scratchy 45s) with back-projected beach scenes on a cloth. No-one in the room paid them the slightest attention; but that's pretty much par for the course at the Adelphi. The best venue for live music in Hull, and nobody takes a blind bit of notice. It was painful watching the beers being ordered: I got the feeling that the punters there would have been happier to order their beer in quarter pints - being the poor students that they are.

... but I'm a student. Admittedly, I'm nearly 40 and doing a Masters but I have the card, I have the cred - well perhaps not. I didn't feel at home amongst those with the required (semi-)tragic look: trying to look like an urban-terrorist who was kitted out from Marks and Spencer hand-me-downs. It's odd to think that in ten years, this precious rabble will be your doctor, dentist, social worker or teacher.
Am I rambling? Quite possibly. Too much beer and too little sun. The saddest thing is that it would never be cool for me to be a Buffalo Soldier or have a Redemption Song like Uncle Bob (Marley)
... mmmmmmmm, listening to that reggae sound dreaming of a rum-and-coke on a West Indian beach at sunset ...
