Sunday walk by the Ancholme
With the last of the summer Indian summer, it was a great opportunity to stroll around the north end of Brigg. Starting on Almond Grove, taking in the Atherton Way Industrial Estate and then back along the banks of the River Ancholme.
The new Brigg Primary School in the process of being built on the Atherton Way industrial estate. This industrial estate is become ever more mixed with: a school, a dance school, two factories, several warehouses and a sewage works. Soon will come allotments and a housing development. (Yes really!)
The new build on the industrial estate. The large blue framed structure is the new Keyo warehouse. This company is moving to the Industrial Estate to make way to sell its existing factory - on the Island Carr - for housing. In the centre of the picture is Rocal Panels and on the left the packaging factory.
The footpath alongside the River Ancholme (left) and the picnic area between the footpath and the River Ancholme towpath.
It has taken many years for the footpath to develop. Now it is a pleasant stroll, but the plants took a long time to colonise the mud and earth that was thrown up out of the River Ancholme when this was being built. Nowadays it is a haven for wildlife with a wide range of plants, flowers and trees. The picnic table shown with the blackened top has been burnt out.
