History of Brigg, North Lincolnshire

Harry Knott Coal Merchant

Nigel Knott - 28 November 2004

I am tracing my family tree and have managed to go back to around 1839 and have now drawn a blank. I am interested in tracing old photos and any info about my Great grandfather Harry Knott of 16 Bridge Street, Brigg.

He had his own business as a coal merchant in Brigg and is listed as living at Bridge Street in the 1901 census. I do know that at least 2 photos were in existence both of which were in my family, but are long gone. However, I believe to be true that there were prints or additional photos and that they may be in some local historical publication or perhaps with a local historical society.

Do you have knowledge of such a society or publication that may be of help? The photos in question are as follows: one of Harry sat on a horse drawn dray which is sign written "Harry Knott Coal Merchant - Brigg". The other is of Coal trucks again sign written.

I would be most obliged to hear from anyone with information about this.

Kind Regards, Nigel J Knott
