History of Brigg, North Lincolnshire

Brigg began as a simple river crossing over the River Ancholme many thousands of years ago. Remains of one of the oldest boats found in this country were unearthed at a location near the present day Tesco supermarket. The town sprang into being as a market town when in 1204 a charter was granted. 2004 is the 800th centenary of Brigg.
