Mediaeval Pageant

9 October 2004

The Brigg and District Community association celebrated a mediaeval pageant on the recreation ground from 10:30am through to 5pm. The packed programme which brought the middle ages to life included: the Tale of Robin Hood, a puppet show, falconry, weapons in preparation and action, medieval cooking, and a knight in shining armour.

Cook Armour Knight

Pictured above are Lady Mandy from Doncaster and Antony Lord Rivers (Dominic) on his steed Star with his suit of armour also on display.

Peasants Cooking pot Apothecary

Everyday life in a medieval village was on display. Jean and Paul are seen here cooking up a fine pottage of peas, carrots and parsnips. On the right, John the apothecary gives an excellent description of the middle ages 'health service'.

Lord Howard Armourers

Lord John Howard of Sheffield (left) recounts his tales of a rich and varied life while medieval armourers present their wares (right).

Puppets Falconer

Children were entertained by a puppet version of the George and the Dragon legend and also by a display of falconry (pictured here with a Harris Hawk and a Peregrine Falcon.

Battle training

The forces of Lord Rivers and Lord John Howard do battle on Brigg Field. This event had an educational theme too, with talks and displays in the local schools before and after the pageant.
