History of Brigg, North Lincolnshire

Parish Boundaries / Bridge Street

7 September 2004

Does anyone know any history about the parish boundaries? I would be particularly interested in any history relating to the Bridge Street area, photos etc. I have looked in all the local books, but have yet to find a picture with my house on it. (Most annoying as I know there was a photographer living across the road years ago!)

Our house is called West Villa, and is on Bridge Street in Brigg. I have some copies of the deeds dating back to 1896 and slightly before which contain the names of the people who rented/owned the property. On these deeds it states that we are situated in the parish of Broughton.

Incidentally does anyone know of a business which was run from our property. There is a covenant (from the Earl of Yarborough) in place stating we may not run a business, or erect signs for such on a piece of land bought in the 60s which constitutes half of the drive and about half of the garage. I spoke to a man called Weston who said the house once belonged to his great grandfather who had some sort of business with nails or pushbikes. Can anyone shed any light?

Sandra

Ed. The parishes do seem to keep changing - particularly on the west end of Brigg around the new Yarborough Mills estate. Do you have any information for Sandra about the parish boundaries? Emails shall be forwarded on to her.
