Power cut problems

EMAIL. I know the recent power cuts caused problems for local residents but I have to comment on one positive.

The morning after the power outage the traffic lights on Barnard Avenue were out of action. I can honestly say it was my easiest ever transit through Brigg: no hold ups or jams. I even checked to see if anyone was held up on the side roads but they were all clear.

Traffic lights a good invention but are they really necessary when they cause traffic to back up when it needn't be so?? - Ray & Zena

ED. What do you think about the way traffic flows through Brigg? How easy do you find to cross over the A18 into town on foot? Tell us what you think!

Shocking ...

With the Indian summer that we are now experiencing here in Brigg, there have been some tremendous thunderstorms. Lightning isn't just harmful to people and animals, however, as some local Brigg residents have found out.

Several nights running Brigg has been plunged into darkness as the electricity system has been knocked out. This has not only left everyone tired, grumpy and with bloodshot eyes from lack of sleep from the noise of house alarms going off - but there has also been damage to computer systems.

The local doctors' surgery and dentists clinics have had to close as a consequence of the severe storm.

Leaving sensitive electronic equipment on standby overnight not only wastes power: but could mean that you wake up to a smoking (and dead) computer ...

Stirring Times?

An editorial in The Times makes a weak joke of suggesting a Tory candidate has a "refreshing change" by going to Brigg & Goole to "discover how people really live". Apparently "the North is really bitchin' these days" but "Neither town is exactly bursting with expensive restaurants".

(Thinks) who said Wit was the highest form of Smugness?? React to Times editorial

Rubbish problem binned?

According to a feature on HorncastleToday.co.uk, it seems that there may be a solution to the ongoing problem of rubbish floating in the River Ancholme in Brigg.

Keith Stothard of the Environment Agency stated that North Lincolnshire Council had responsibility for removing general litter while the Environment Agency was responsible for large and bulky items.

He went on to mention that North East Lincolnshire Council had a rowing boat for its river rubbish.
