Brigg hit the national headlines when the former manager of a Jet Petrol Station in Hull was arrested in Brigg on suspicion of being involved with a major credit card fraud. The police have stated that the man was of 'impeccable character' and 'There is no suggestion he was involved at this stage'. Staff hired from London are reported to have been involved in cloning credit cards for an international gang.

Recycling

Residents of Brigg are to be given an extra bin to recycle their plastic bottles. This will be a relief as the existing facilities in the Kwik Save and Tesco car parks were overflowing after Christmas (pic. right). Brigg residents clearly want to recycle their plastic but are not able to do so properly at the moment.

Brigg's Hibaldstow railway crossing will soon appear on the Top Gear programme. A simulation of the effects of a train hitting a vehicle will be shown in the coming weeks on the popular BBC2 programme.

Bird's Eye frozen food factory in Hull will be closing in September with the loss of almost 600 jobs. This will have a knock on effect on local farmers as they will no longer be processing frozen peas.

Schools in Brigg and Caistor have been doing well compared to those in Scunthorpe. Caistor Grammar is in the top 200 schools with 100% of its pupils scoring five A to C GCSE passes. The Vale of Ancholme Technology College is in the top 100 schools on the basis of its improvement. South Leys Business and Enterprise College in Scunthorpe came in a 'supporting role' in the league tables in the bottom 200 schools nationally.

Tesco supermarket in Brigg has displayed notices stating that drivers who leave their vehicles more than three hours in the shared use car park may be liable to a £70 fee. The notice also states that the money raised will be donated to the Tesco charity of the year.

Konrad Thurano of the Roermond "Cirque d'Hiver" in the Netherlands is still working as a 'comic' acrobat at the age of 97 ! Konrad was born in Düsseldorf and began his career in 1927. He is now nearly blind and deaf but still works with his son Johannes (66). The duo have wowed crowds for 53 years. Konrad puts his health down to his diet of apple puree, apple pancakes and black pudding (with apples).
