Lonely heartsA lovestruck man from Colorado, USA dreams of finding his childhood sweetheart ... Road tragedy?(Ray by email) What a sad sight on our home trip on Friday from Brigg to Wrawby. The sight of a lovely pony laid in the road dead was a sickening sight. I don't know the background behind the incident but i hope it was not any form of abuse. It was a very hot day and we hope this was not the cause of this sad event. |
Brigg BandThe Brigg Band is experiencing an exciting upturn in activity with the reintroduction of the Senior Section. The Band meets for practice each Thursday evening in the Wrawby Village Hall with sessions for all abilities. Prospective brass players will be most welcome and should contact Brenda Connor on (01652) 655884. The Band will be available for engagements later in the summer. David Bancroft |
Missing yards(Lynne by email) I have traced my family roots in Brigg, from 1841 to 1901, but have been unable to find Cawkwell's and Nicholson's yards. Buy it in Brigg |
Horse fair(Lisa Lee by email) Please could you tell me if there will be a Horse Fair this year 2006? If so what date? Thanks Ed: - There will be no 'official' horse fair this year. However, like previous years, the travellers may turn up with their horses to hold their own fair on Saturday August 5th - but this may - also like previous years - be opposed by the authorities. :-/ More: Brigg Horse Fair | Send your information about the Horse fair |
Summer Sundays ...

Brigg Market place on a quiet Sunday with the new bunting. The view is looking west towards the amusement arcade from the Natwest bank. The Angel and the Brigg bandstand are on the left of the picture.
Reaction: Bike production
(James Martin by email) - Re: Production of Falcon Cycles 'gets on their bike' overseas
I think its sad that production will have to be done overseas. I think the government could do more to help businesses. For example, there is no car manufacturing industry in the UK any more. MG Rover went bust, and had to go to China. Jaguar no longer produce in the UK, neither do Vauxhall or Peugeot.
We seem to be losing all of the big manufacturing companies in the United Kingdom, because it seems companies can not afford to produce in the UK. This is quite a "let down" for the entire country, where as some of our European neighbours manufacture cars, like the German Volkswagen, the Swedish Volvo, the Spanish Seat and the Italian Fiat.
What is happening to all of the major production factories in the UK? It's not just car manufacturing companies .... what about Brigg's Trent Foods?
Reaction: What do you think of this move of production outside of the UK? Send your reaction
Ed: - The effects of globalisation are reaching even here into the sleepy backwater of Brigg ... It looks like the real question is to figure out what we can supply (products or services) in place of manufactured goods.
