Brigg Fair - better than everThe Brigg Fair will be taking place once again (for at least the 802nd time) and it will be bigger and better than ever. There will be many new attractions and something for every member of the family. Volunteers, however, are urgently needed. Can you spare 2-3 hours per year to help out?? |
College Yard festivitiesThis Saturday (24 June) the businesses in College Yard will be putting on special attractions to draw more people into Brigg. There will be a barbecue of organic sausages and an assortment of pitta bread snacks. For the children there will be a chocolate fountain with fruits for dipping. Joan of Country Cottage will be holding a product launch of Ecobella organic paraben free make up where a beautician will offer free facials. Emma Jane of Reverence Dancewear will be supplying music and John of the Phone Cabin will be providing a surprise attraction. |

HunsleyWe are new migrants and have settled in Queensland. We came across 'Hunsley Road' in the hinterland last week and were amazed as that is my maiden name. Buy it in Brigg![]() Venue changeA new Brigg Business Association is looking for ways to promote Brigg as "the first choice for shopping, socialising, visiting and living in Northern Lincolnshire." All businesses operating in the Brigg area are invited to attend an informal meeting at 6pm Wednesday 28 June at The Vines Cafe-Restaurant (Wrawby Street, Brigg). The Brigg Business Association will work alongside North Lincolnshire Council, Brigg Town Council, Brigg Beacon Town and local community groups to take practical steps to increase trade in Brigg. Slave penguins?(Ray by email) re: Bike production Sadly I think it's just the way the world is moving. Business is driven by profits and they will search the globe for cheaper labour and production costs. At the moment China seems to be the country of choice as Europe has now out priced itself. I predict that within the next 10 to 15 years that this will move to the African sub continent. The problem I foresee is where do the companies go from there. Maybe a thriving industry in Antarctica run buy slave labour penguins?? Ed. - Penguins will work for chicken feed presumably! The strange thing is that the whole point of the Industrial Revolution was to use machines in place of human labour - that idea seems to have been forgotten in the mad rush by industry to find ever poorer workers. This clutch of seven cygnets was seen on the Old River Ancholme at the popular duck feeding spot on the Springs Parade wharf. |
