Election 2005 - Matthew Bean - Conservative

Message to Brigg electors

Matthew Bean - Monday, 25 April 2005

I am proud to have my roots in Brigg and Goole Constituency. My family have lived and worked here for generations, which is set to continue with the birth of our daughter, Isobel, in January this year - no excuses of being tired from this Parliamentary candidate though!

One of my first memories is being in Brigg, aged 5, with my Grandmother, who was the Chairman of Humberside County Council, to welcome the Queen on her visit during the silver jubilee. I was delighted to be shown press cuttings of the visit on a recent campaign day in Brigg.

I have been listening to people across the Constituency, talking on the doorstep and putting out over 40,000 surveys, asking you what really matters. The answer is clear: smaller, more effective Government, less red-tape in our schools and hospitals, a fairer deal for pensioners and help for young families with child-care.

So what are our policies to make the changes that people want? With so much spin in politics I believe in putting Conservative policies in clear terms: More Police, Cleaner Hospitals, Controlled Immigration, Lower taxes and School Discipline. 10 words that make plain what the next Conservative Government will do if elected.

At a local level I will be an effective campaigner for Brigg, continuing to fight on the key issues, such as raising the profile of the town to attract new business and jobs, getting more police on our streets to deal with the goring problem of anti-social behaviour, and arguing for a fair share of services in the rural areas.

Trust in politicians has hit an all time low. That’s because there has been too much spin and broken promises under Labour. What we want now is action. That is what I will offer as your Member of Parliament.

With the (very late) arrival of spring this year, the Conservative campaign began on a gloriously sunny Thusday at the Brigg Market. Pictured on the right is the Conservative candidate, Matthew Bean (centre) together with his election assistants Adrian Smith (left) and Tom Woodford (right).

The campaign message being promoted was around law and order issues with an emphasis on increasing the number of 'bobbies on the beat' - particularly on Friday and Saturday nights in Brigg.
