Orphan cygnet
23 May 2006
We moved to Brigg 6 years ago. We have 7 acres of garden/land, 2 fairly large ponds and at the bottom of our garden is the River Ancholme.
For the first two years living here, there were two swans and the second year three cygnets.
We lost two cygnets after about 3 weeks, suspect the fox had one and we were told that pike may have had the other one, then for about a week, the male swan kept flying off for the full day and returning at night.
Then one day both swans left and never came back and we were left with the baby cygnet.
I contacted the Swan Rescue at Lincoln and they came and collected the baby. The swans have never been back since.
Anyone any idea why?
