Sunday on the River Ancholme

18 September 2005

The Ancholme is a beautiful river. Taking a stroll along its banks - particularly on a sunny Sunday morning - is always a wonderful way to get back in touch with nature and to appreciate once again how much the river offers to Brigg.

The wildlife too is a constant source of interest. Seeing the cygnets grow from tiny chicks through to graceful adults is always marvellous:

The only real shame, is the amount of rubbish that people throw into the river. Some rubbish blows out too from the rubbish bins besides the river. Their design with the twin openings letting the wind and wildlife inside and letting the rubbish out to blow into the Ancholme.

At the moment, the rubbish isn't being removed at all from the river, but there are signs that North Lincolnshire Council may be soon taking responsibility for this.
