War of the Wolds ... ?4 July 2005 ![]() Crop circles as seen from a human perspective Strange markings in a roughly circular form have appeared in the wheat field next to Rocal Panels on the Ancholme Industrial Estate. The rings are around 20 feet / 6m across and are present in a series which diminishes in size from east to west. Are these circles evidence of the visitation of UFOs - or were they made by more human hands? Perhaps as a publicity stunt for the recently released remake of HG Well's 'War of the Worlds' starring Tom Cruise? Although it is difficult to see their shape and size in the photo above - with the limitations of perspective - they do form a regular pattern in the cereal field. No signs of footprints or other tracks were seen leading to the circles. There are no obvious signs of human intervention. With the recent extremely warm and humid weather, however, one possible explanation for them may be a mini tornado. We don't usually think of Britain as being prone to this sort of extreme weather phenomenon, but these islands have, according to meteorologists, the highest number of tornadoes for the size of the country in the world. Only time will tell if the mysterious circles are caused by the wind, pranksters or visitors from another planet. |
