Beel family, Brigg
Sarah Coultous - 28 October 2006
I've been searching around for a while to find out as much information on Glanford Brigg because my grandmother Florence Carrie Beel was born there in 1901.
I had been told by my mother that the family Beel had fairground rides. I sent off for my grandmother's birth cetificate to find out her parents names and what job they did and where they lived in Brigg.
Today I recieved it and found out my great grandfather worked as a railway ballastman and lived in Market Lane Brigg. Ive looked for this lane and cannot find it on the internet and do not know about the job he did.
Can you help? Are there any pictures of market lane around 1900 or do you know what the job title was and if it was a popular job in those days? Any information would be fantastic into helping me trace my roots.

Ed: Market Lane in Brigg still exists - between the Woolpack Inn and (derelict) Smith Parkinson Garage on the Marketplace. The lane used to lead to the Cattle Market. This market no longer exists and has been replaced by a Tesco mini superstore.
