Melton family

Graham Melton - 28 February 2006

Can anyone help?

I'm trying to find further details about my great-grandfather George Melton, who moved to Brigg some time between 1871 and 1881 from his family home in Heacham, Norfolk.

In the 1881 census, he was aged 24, living at 5 Wrawby Street, Brigg, and working as an assistant printer for William Cressey. He married Elizabeth Sergeant (born 1860 in Kelsey, Lincs) at Manton Parish Church on April 27, 1885, and they had two sons, George, my grandfather, who was born in Brigg circa 1888 and Bertie, who was born circa 1895 in Lye, Worcestershire.

I know the family moved around as they were living in Halifax at the time of the 1891 census but were back living at Scawby Brook in 1901.

Does anyone have any further information about the family? I would be delighted to hear anything that might be of interest, even details about the printing work that my gt-grandfather later did in Brigg/ Scawby.

Regards, Graham Melton
