Keep up to date
Microsoft'sTM programming team is constantly improving their internet browser Internet Explorer. They regularly issue security 'patches' which fix potential security problems.
If you keep your browser up to date, you can fix problems before they happen. Download updates from: www.microsoft.com.
Disable ActiveX
Although ActiveX controls on webpages look great and can offer a lot of useful functions, they are a potential (serious) security problem - which can allow others to access your PC's files.
To disable them: a) View the Properties of Internet Explorer. b) Choose 'Security'. c) Select 'Custom level'. d) Select 'disable' for all options relating to ActiveX (Download signed ActiveX, Download unsigned, Initialise and Script ActiveX controls, Run ActiveX controls and plugins, script ActiveX marked safe for scripting).
Disable downloads
To disable them: a) View the Properties of Internet Explorer. b) Choose 'Security'. c) Select 'Custom level'. d) Select 'disable' for 'File download'.
