Dirty ole river ...
Thursday, 18 September 2003
Having been a resident in Brigg for a number of years now, I cannot help thinking that Brigg council is failing to see the potential in the Ancholme river. This could and should be one of the biggest draws to the town. Having read a while ago that some funds had been allocated to repair railings etc.... I was pleased, a step forward !
A good clean up in the river would probably raise that money in scrap from all the trolleys and bikes!! Do the people in the"know" not see these? This area needs attention.
Have they not been to other places to enjoy a similar attraction? I bet they have! But why when all they have to do is invest in the town properly. More live music around the river, even on it!
Brigg new build housing is on the boom, people will not socialise in a badly facilitated place, so all their dosh goes out of Brigg. Not the way forward....!

Here is a picture of our river Ancholme complete with shopping trolley (which looks like it comes from Tesco) settled in the riverbed near the bridge. BriggLife did a bit of investigation after receiving the email above about this problem.
Many people think that the Town Council is all powerful and in control of our town, but in reality its powers are limited. The majority of tasks being performed by North Lincs Council. The river comes under another authority.

Update During the autumn, the trolleys were removed from the river Ancholme by two enthusiastic local fishermen - Mick Capp and Mark Dunderdale. Congratulations, gentlemen, you are true Brigg Heroes :-)
If you spot a trolley in the river (or anywhere else), you can ring the Tesco Trolley Spotters Line on 0800 50 55 55. They will be glad to rescue the stranded trolleys.
