An accident waiting to happen!

29 August 2005

On Saturday my wife and I were visiting the Farmers Market and were returning to our car on Old Courts Road (car park).

At the rough ground at the rear of Poundstretcher an elderly gentleman tripped over a lump of concrete that has been there for years.

After assisting him another onlooker remarked that it was an accident waiting to happen. The whole of this area is rough and uneven and surely in this litigious society we now live in it would be cheaper for the companies and/or council to make this area safer than to be sued for thousands in court. I hope the gentleman involved is ok as he looked fairly shaken by his fall.

Ed. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. A lot of people have been having problems with the land to the back of the shops there. There was a scheme in the offing - I think called 'the gateway to Brigg' to improve these courts and alleys. They (Brigg MTI) spent a stack of money on a feasibility study - then nothing more has been heard. The project could well be ongoing for anyone knows. I'll have a look into this a bit further.

There are a lot of trip hazards in Brigg. The worst in my opinion is that outside the youth centre where the wall was knocked down about 6 - 9 months ago and hasn't been replaced. The gap in the wall is the perfect size to break a child's ankle. There is also a penchant for building in 'mini steps' and odd gradient edges - outside the Tourist Centre and Bandstand for example. Quite why they didn't just level the paving when they were building the Centre is beyond me.

As they said in the Hill Street Blues: Take care on the streets!
