BUGSS & Brigg Town Council
17 July 2005
Dear Editor,
It has come to my attention that it has been stated we here at BUGSS are getting no help from Brigg Town Council.
This is not exactly the truth of the matter.
Had it not been for the 'Public Meeting' there would have been no Brigg Fair 2005 With local councillors present, supporting this new committee and it's works. The fact we have taken on NO responsibilities for any debts passed groups or committee's have for what ever the reason have incurred. Nor do we have any association with any past committee that have run the Brigg Summer Fair.
We are hoping that a 'New Broom' will sweep the area clean of any and all past problems and lets face it without help from Brigg Town Council we would not have been able to operate.
Had Brigg Town Council not been 'Mindful' to pay for the hire, setting up, clearing away of the stall's and disposal of the refuse, BUGSS would have not even been in existence. So without the financial help and the very grateful support in where we got the stall holders and other items from past fair's we would not have been able to have a Brigg Fair 2005 (BUGSS) .
I look forward to hearing your comments on this emotive issue and hope you as the editor of www.brigglife.co.uk can support the work that we here at BUGSS are doing with the full support of Brigg Town Council.
Regards, Charlie - BUGSS
Ed. As editor of BriggLife my 'view' on the events surrounding the collapse
of the Brigg and District Community association is that:
a. these unfortunate events have occurred - nothing can change that. It is
time to move on without recrimination for the benefit of the whole
community.
b. we - as a community - must learn from this to ensure that this
unfortunate problem does not happen again.
c. some resolution for the creditors must be reached.
d. if public money is granted to any body running public events, that body's
structure and procedures must be on a sound financial footing with
appropriate legal responsibilities and accountability.
e. public bodies have a duty to actively promote our community in return for
the authority and income that we as the electorate provide them.
Charles, you can rest assured that BriggLife will continue to help support the work of BUGSS and recognises that Brigg Town Council has always supported both the fair and the horse fair. The programme of events that BUGSS has created shall mean that the Brigg Fair this year is going to be the best yet.
