Survey: Where does Brigg 'belong' ?
This survey asked BriggLife visitors to say in which area they thought that Brigg belonged. The survey was taken between 7th and 13th November 2005.

Where Brigg 'should be'
There has been a lot of confusion over in which geographical area Brigg belongs. For over a thousand years it has been in the county of Lincolnshire - but with administrative changes in the seventies, eighties and nineties its 'identity' has changed repeatedly.
There was no single clear 'winner'. What emerged was that the vast majority of respondents (83 percent total) wanted Brigg to belong to some form of 'Lincolnshire'. South Humberside came a surprisingly respectable 3rd with 17% of votes.
The thing that stood out most clearly, however, was that the new 'region' of 'Yorkshire and the Humber' scored nul points with Brigg people. There were no valid votes for this new creation. No one felt any connection with or desire to belong to this new area.
A few respondents voted multiple times. This did not influence the survey as these duplicate votes were excluded from the above results.
The interesting thing about the duplicate votes, however, is that they were with one exception for 'Lincolnshire' - indicating a strength of feeling for the retention of this county identity for Brigg.
If the duplicate votes are included, then the results are:
- 52 percent - Lincolnshire
- 34 percent - North Lincolnshire
- 14 percent - South Humberside
- 0 percent - Yorkshire & the Humber
A sincere 'thank you' to everyone who voted.
What do you think of these results? Do they make you feel more or less certain about where Brigg belongs? Reply
