Brigg to Broughton

The route

Castlethorpe Bridge
This short walk (5km / 3miles) follows a relaxing route along the Ancholme and across the fields to Broughton. The return leg is via bus.
Start from the County Bridge in the centre of Brigg, follow the footpath along the side of the Ancholme alongside and past Lidl, under the relief road bridge. There are pleasant views of the boat club on the opposite bank and a series of benches and picnic tables to take in the scene.
Keep on the footpath under the M180 motorway bridge for a further 1km, then cross over the Castlethorpe Bridge - where you get excellent views along the Ancholme back to Brigg. Follow the farmtrack past the chicken farm until you get to the B1208.
Turn to the left along the B1208 for about 30m, cross over the road and follow the footpath along the field track for about 200m. The path turns to the right and leaves the track to head across the fields towards a small plantation, then turns to the right where it joins the road into Broughton. Turn left here along this road and keep on until you reach the centre of town where you can get refreshments. Buses to Brigg leave from in front of the Red Lion. For times call 0870 608 2 608
